Carrie Anne Fleming, the Canadian actress whose recurring roles on Supernatural and iZombie made her a familiar presence in genre television, has died. She was 51.

Fleming died on February 26 in Sidney, British Columbia. Jim Beaver, who played Bobby Singer on Supernatural alongside her, confirmed to Variety that she died of complications from breast cancer. A memorial service has not yet been announced. She is survived by her daughter, Madalyn Rose.

News of the Carrie Anne Fleming death broke on March 22 and spread quickly through the fan communities that had followed her work across more than three decades on screen.

A Career Built in Genre Television

Fleming was born on August 16, 1974, in Digby, Nova Scotia. She later moved to Victoria, British Columbia, where she attended Mount Douglas Senior Secondary and trained in drama at the Kaleidoscope Theatre and in dance at the Kidco Theatre Dance Company. After finishing school, she began modeling to help support her family before moving steadily into film and television work.

Her earliest screen appearances came through an uncredited role in Adam Sandler’s 1996 comedy Happy Gilmore and a recurring part on the TV series Viper. From there, she built a career that skewed consistently toward the supernatural, the strange, and the speculative.

The role that first brought her wider attention within genre circles came in 2005, when director Dario Argento cast her in Masters of Horror. Her episode, titled “Jenifer,” featured Fleming as the eponymous character, a woman with a facial deformity. It was the kind of demanding, physical performance that gets remembered by genre fans long after a show has moved on. She followed it with appearances in The Tooth Fairy and Bloodsuckers, further cementing her place in horror and sci-fi television.

Over the years, her credits expanded to include Smallville, The L Word, The 4400, unREAL, and Supergirl. On film, she appeared in Good Luck Chuck, Married Life, That Burning Feeling, and Rememory. In 2015, she took on the role of Candace Cameron Bure’s mother in the TV movie The Unauthorized Full House Story, which dramatized the behind-the-scenes making of the hit sitcom. Cameron Bure, of course, played DJ Tanner on the original series.

Karen Singer, Candy Baker, and the Fans Who Remember

Fleming’s most enduring television work came through two long-running CW series.

On Supernatural, she played Karen Singer, the wife of Bobby Singer, the gruff hunter played by Jim Beaver who became one of the most beloved supporting figures in the show’s 15-season run. Karen’s story was woven into Bobby’s backstory in ways that gave the character emotional weight far exceeding her screen time. The Supernatural fandom, still active years after the series ended in 2020, responded to the Carrie Anne Fleming death with tributes across social media.

On iZombie, the CW’s living-dead procedural comedy starring Rose McIver, Fleming played Candy Baker across all five seasons of the show. That kind of sustained presence across an entire series run is something many actors never achieve, and it built her a second, equally devoted audience.

Beyond the screen, she remained active in British Columbia’s theater community. Her stage credits included Noises Off, Romeo and Juliet, Steel Magnolias, and Fame.

The entertainment industry and the world of genre television intersect constantly with the technology and platform decisions that determine which stories get told and who gets to see them. The Tech Marketer covers those dynamics across streaming, content distribution, and digital media.
