Ces dix dernières années, les Directeurs de systèmes d’information (DSI) ont vu leur mission évoluer : outre la gestion des affaires courantes, ils doivent désormais générer des revenus pour l’entreprise. Ce nouvel objectif, très éloigné de leur formation technique initiale, complexifie terriblement leur tâche. Ajoutez à cela l’accélération des évolutions du marché, la mutation rapide de l’informatique et la pénurie permanente de talents, et vous obtenez un cocktail explosif qui ne fait qu’accentuer la très forte pression qui pèse déjà sur leurs épaules.

Historiquement, le réseau WAN (Wide-Area Network) a toujours été un outil primordial permettant aux DSI de relier les sites distants et les télétravailleurs aux data centers centraux, créant ainsi une entreprise totalement interconnectée. Jusqu’à aujourd’hui, les entreprises déployaient des réseaux MPLS (Multiprotocol Label Switching) équipés de routeurs physiques configurés manuellement. Mais les architectures WAN imposent des contraintes qui font obstacle à la migration vers le cloud ou à l’utilisation de connexions Internet standard sur leurs sites distants. Dans ce contexte, le SD-WAN (Software-Defined Wide Area Network) a suscité de nombreux espoirs pour la transformation du réseau.
