The Network in the Face of New Realities of a Distributed Cloud Environment
Throughout history, businesses have always needed to adapt to the evolution of their environment. However, the pace of this evolution has shifted. Today, players in all sectors must deal with a constantly changing IT and application environment. The pandemic has accelerated this change, with the widespread adoption of remote work and the proliferation of next-generation applications in enterprise data centers, multiple public clouds, and increasingly at edge sites. This has added to the complexity of IT systems.
Unsurprisingly, companies have doubled down on their digital transformation projects. According to an ESG study, 22% of companies consider their transformation mature (with several projects already implemented and optimized), while 50% say it is ongoing (with projects being implemented and executed). This is a significant increase from a year earlier when only 19% of companies were mature and 39% had ongoing projects.
The reasons for embarking on digital transformation are also noteworthy. The study indicates that companies primarily seek to improve operational efficiency (56%), adopt tools and processes compatible with new modes of interaction and collaboration (49%), and offer differentiated, higher quality customer experiences (40%). Clearly, all these objectives (see Figure 1) are aimed at enabling companies to adapt and strengthen their resilience.
