Ein Content Management System (CMS) ist eine Software, über die Nutzer auch ohne technisches Fachwissen Website- oder App-Inhalte erstellen, managen und anpassen können.

Das Konzept Headless bezeichnet die Trennung des Back-Ends (Logik und Speicher) von der Front-End-Anwendung oder -Ansicht. Dies geschieht üblicherweise mithilfe von APIs.

API s wiederum steht für (Application Programming Interfaces) Diese Programmierschnittstellen definieren die Interaktionen zwischen verschiedenen Anwendungen. In ihnen ist festgelegt, welche Anfragen wie gestellt werden können, welche Datenformate und Konventionen zu beachten sind und einiges mehr. Darüber hinaus können Anwender mit APIs bestehende Funktionen erweitern.

Das Content Repository ist eine Datenbank für digitale Inhalte. Über eigene Datenverwaltungs-, Such- und Zugriffsmethoden gestattet das Repository unabhängig von der genutzten Anwendung Zugriff auf den Content. Es wird als Speicher-Engine für größere Anwendungen wie ein CMS eingesetzt.
